DELAY VS. DENIAL
3 TIPS TO HANDLING YOUR HOLDING PATTERN
You've got the winning concept. You had a light bulb moment that is going to change everything. You finally got your money together. You've finally decided to have "the talk." And then there is a curve ball at you. You had your mind and heart synchronized to move in the direction of your goal and just like that the wheels of progress grind to a screeching halt. The proverbial wind has gone out of your sails. You are now deflated rather than determined. Stop. Breath. It's time to stop thinking of delay as denial. We can't use a delay as our "get out of jail free" card and crawl back in our hole. You are in a holding pattern. All is not lost. Achievement of the goal is still possible. The energy, enthusiasm, and effort necessary has not evaporated its just on stand by. Resist the urge to look at a pause as period. You are still on the clock and in the game. Practice these 3 tips during delay:- Stay Focused. The plan has not changed. You are still on track. Be ready to take action when the delay is over. Resist the urge to become discouraged or distracted.
- Review the Plan. This delay could be by design. Perhaps it's an opportunity for you focus on preparation for the endeavor. Take this time to evaluate the effort you going to undertake. The plan has not changed but it just might need a little tweaking to maximize results or impact.
- Rest. This could very well be the calm before the storm. Once you get going you'll need your best energy to fuel your best effort. Take advantage of the opportunity that the delay provides to by allowing yourself to just be. Every moment doesn't have to be filled with motion.
Remember, you are still on track and you are going to crush this next goal. You are delayed NOT denied.
