DELAY VS DENIAL

DELAY VS. DENIAL
3 TIPS TO HANDLING YOUR HOLDING PATTERN
You've got the winning concept. You had a light bulb moment that is going to change everything. You finally got your money together. You've finally decided to have "the talk." And then there is a curve ball at you. You had your mind and heart synchronized to move in the direction of your goal and just like that the wheels of progress grind to a screeching halt. The proverbial wind has gone out of your sails. You are now deflated rather than determined. Stop. Breath. It's time to stop thinking of delay as denial. We can't use a delay as our "get out of jail free" card and crawl back in our hole. You are in a holding pattern. All is not lost. Achievement of the goal is still possible. The energy, enthusiasm, and effort necessary has not evaporated its just on stand by. Resist the urge to look at a pause as period. You are still on the clock and in the game. Practice these 3 tips during delay:

  1. Stay Focused. The plan has not changed. You are still on track. Be ready to take action when the delay is over. Resist the urge to become discouraged or distracted.
  2. Review the Plan. This delay could be by design. Perhaps it's an opportunity for you focus on preparation for the endeavor. Take this time to evaluate the effort you going to undertake. The plan has not changed but it just might need a little tweaking to maximize results or impact.
  3. Rest. This could very well be the calm before the storm. Once you get going you'll need your best energy to fuel your best effort. Take advantage of the opportunity that the delay provides to by allowing yourself to just be. Every moment doesn't have to be filled with motion.

Remember, you are still on track and you are going to crush this next goal. You are delayed NOT denied.

Why it's Important to Know What YOU Need

What I've learned by trial, error and revelation is that when you sign up for what you don't want then the outcome is what you don't need. Before you make a connection you need to understand your needs and your expectations.

Ask yourSELF: What do I NEED from this scenario or individual?

If the situation or the person is unable to meet or exceed those expectations then its time for you to move on. So many times we are disappointed by outcomes because we have not outlined our expectations or held ourselves accountable for honoring our own standards/morals/values. The best person to defend/protect you is Y-O-U.

Here's what you need to do to maintain your VAL-YOU:

1. Establish and maintain boundaries
2. Evaluate a situation or a person against your established standards/morals/values
3. Communicate your needs and expectations clearly and unapologetically up front
4. Have the courage to disconnect when necessary
